Model Averaging and Bayes Factor Calculation of Relaxed Molecular Clocks in Bayesian Phylogenetics
We describe a procedure for model averaging of relaxed molecular clock models in Bayesian phylogenetics. Our approach allows us to model the distribution of rates of substitution across branches, averaged over a set of models, rather than conditioned on a single model. We implement this procedure and test it on simulated data to show that our method can accurately recover the true underlying di...

متن کاملModel Selection in Phylogenetics
! Abstract Investigation into model selection has a long history in the statistical literature. As model-based approaches begin dominating systematic biology, increased attention has focused on how models should be selected for distance-based, likelihood, and Bayesian phylogenetics. Here, we review issues that render model-based approaches necessary, briefly review nucleotide-based models that ...
متن کاملRelaxed molecular clocks for dating historical plant dispersal events.
Age estimation from molecular sequences has emerged as a powerful tool for inferring when a plant lineage arrived in a particular area. Knowing the tenure of lineages within a region is key to understanding the evolution of traits, the evolution of biotic interactions, and the evolution of floras. New analytical methods model change in substitution rates along individual branches of a phylogene...
متن کاملApproximating model probabilities in Bayesian information criterion and decision-theoretic approaches to model selection in phylogenetics.
A priori selection of models for use in phylogeny estimation from molecular sequence data is increasingly important as the number and complexity of available models increases. The Bayesian information criterion (BIC) and the derivative decision-theoretic (DT) approaches rely on a conservative approximation to estimate the posterior probability of a given model. Here, we extended the DT method b...
